Cabin Fire-Cathedrals Of Information LP (2012)

Country: USA
Genre: Hardcore, Punk, Screamo, Grindcore
Label: Self Released
Tracks: 8

This request came as a pleasant surprise. Cabin Fire are a two piece band from Fresno, CA. Cabin Fire plays a great style of music that incorporates elements of hardcore, punk, screamo, and grindcore. Heavy and chaotic with nods to bands such as older Off Minor, Orchid and Ampere, Cathedrals of Information makes for an impressively brutal listen . Seriously, after finding out this band is a two piece, my jaw hit the floor. Cathedrals Of Information is the band's latest eight song lp released earlier this month. I also included Cabin Fire's Friday Night Patriarch EP released in 2010 and their debut LP American Lies LP for you as well. Great stuff, guys. Thanks for sharing!

Deathwish has been absolutely killing it as far as repressing amazing albums. 2011 saw all three Give Up The Ghost LPs, the reissue of Rise And Fall's Hellmouth LP, Converge's Jane Doe, and now another gem sees the light of day. "Unloved And Weeded Out" is a collection of 14 rare, out-of-print and highly sought-after early tracks from the band. All of the songs were remixed and remastered by acclaimed producer and member Kurt Ballou at Godcity Studios. Renouncer - Incorporeal Insurrection (2012)

Country: Usa
Year: 2012
Genre: Hardcore, metal
Label: Disgorge media
Tracks: 4

RENOUNCER is a fairly new band from Kansas City, with members of Kicked In and Diskreet, and they play Hardcore just the way I like it: It’s hard as nails without being dull, it varies speeds so it stays interesting, it’s metallic without being metalcore, the musicians are skilled without jerking off about it and they stick to a dark and hateful theme that is the golden thread that runs through the four songs of this EP (entitled Incorporeal Insurrection, released on Disgorge Media).

Enriching their harsh and heavy Hardcore with just the right dose of extreme metal, RENOUNCER position themselves somewhere among bands like Catharsis, Kickback or Bloodlet. Super sick and highbrow riffs case the utter brutality of the songs, so you’ll find yourself caught between being amazed and the urge to punch the guy next to you and/or yourself in the face. And like I said, RENOUNCER are able to incorporate this metallic heaviness without sounding like some stupid deathcore crap or a narcissistic mathcore band whose only raison d’être is showing how much they’ve practiced to play scales fore- and backwards.

The vocals are brutal and heavy and fit the whole thing just perfect. I just don’t get the point of watering them down with this distortion effect kind of thing, they’d sound better without that. I mean it’s not really annoying, since this is just a four song EP – but on a full length it would be pretty disturbing I guess. On the other hand I really dig the lyrics, e.g. “God Is Not Here My Child / His Ears Deaf To Your Cries / Only I The Devil Remain / Destroyer Of His Holy Lies”. I’m so easy to get with lines like that.

Incorporeal Insurrection is a relentless, mean and heavy Hardcore record that brought me through a bunch of shitty Monday mornings (oh I hate them) and should definitely please fans of bands like Kickback, Bloodlet or even early Converge. I’m really curious about the further development of this band.

We are the Doctors - Take your meds (2012)

Country: Netherlands
Genre: Punk, Hardcore, Powerviolence, Sludge.
Label:
DIY
Tracks: 13
Length: 25

We are the Doctors is a punk trio from Haarlem (Netherlands) with strong power-violence, hardcore and sludge influences. In 2011 they released their first demo (4-1) complete in DIY style. In January 2012 their first full length (Take Your Meds) got released. The band name comes from a Comadre song (Hit Me Up On My Celly Cell), one of the bands that inspired We are the Doctors. The songs of We are the Doctors are fast, short and loud. The way we like it, no compromises just a big wall of noise.

The album ‘Take Your Meds’ was made in DIY style. It took three months and the help of a bunch of friends to get it done (we even had to borrow a friend his computer!). The work was done mostly during weekends and usually with a nice hangover from the previous night. The mixing and mastering was completed within a week. And finally, the first album was born! It hosts 13 songs and can be bought during shows or on Facebook.

Viduus is a relative new band, relative because there is a Shai Hulud member, and they previously called themselves Stay. Their sound is something like a mixture between His Hero is Gone more faster and crust songs with metal parts more environmental without neglecting that thread and don't drop in the killer boring. The tape is going to be pressed as a 7" tentatively through True & Through and Komarov Records.

Of dug-in mini-shorts hanging on the fringes volantsde buggiesà at full speed. Matter of urgency. Hot sand and girls in sweaters. Kouign aman and shellfish on a beach in Loire Valley. Born too late and the wrong places, these three boys give us a brilliant ride to listen to surf music. We sing our boards already colored the choruses of these songs without words. Super-produced and created from scratch in the heart of Pueblo Coktail studios on a 4-track K7 art. The Boys All Stars Band in the wind (the Finkielkrauts, Pneu, Toddi Wellman) has not finished feeding the most fantastic television iconography of what our vision of America.

For desDents fan of the sea, beach volleyball and crocodile tongues, the Jagwar Pirates are like humans, they are well. (Another fucking Google translation, sorry)

Bezoar - Wyt Deth (2012)

Country: USA
Genre: Sludge, Phsychedelic, Progressive
Label:
DIY
Tracks: 8
Length: 48
'

Bezoar wails and hails from Brooklyn, New York. This power trio has been on the stoner, psychedelic doom metal scene since 2009 but is more majestic, massive and cerebral than any mere genre tag. Tyler Villard previously played with Ruksac, a Boston hard core band, and Sara Palmquist played with tripped out noise band Isle of Citadel. When these bands disbanded Bezoar was formed out of Sara and Tyler’s desire to continue making heavy weird and boundary defying music. They eventually became a power trio with Sara on vocals and bass, Tyler on guitar, and Jesse Smith on drums. With influences ranging from Sleep, YOB, 1349, Diamanda Galas, Swans, Mayhem, Electric Wizard, Eyehategod, Slayer, and Darkthrone among many others, Bezoar are not out to color within the lines. After Jesse left the band for personal reasons Bezoar was on a notorious drummer search which ended when skin pounder Justin Sherrell (who also plays in the band Wizardry) joined up. After signing to No World Order Records in 2010 the band released a 7 inch and fans can expect a beastly full length debut in Winter 2012. Combining organized chaos and sweaty organic riffing with mystic purpose, Bezoar is a no nonsense hardworking band who at times have lived on their school bus to support the music they love. They have shared the stage and held their own alongside bands like Harvey Milk, Bison B.C., Jarboe, Saviours, Natur, Total Social Suicide, Sightings, Kurt Vile and other renowned artists and show no sign of slowing down. Like a torch blowing on the faces of all that is candy stripes and happy garage rock, Bezoar powers through the new disco era with a true vision of the ages. Sick, guttural, beautiful, engaging, raw, powerful, original, and twisted, Bezoar look forward to a long life of putting out records

Country: USA
Genre: Indie Rock, Post Punk, Noise Rock, Psychedelic
Label: Self Released
Tracks: 11

Here's another gem of a find I recently stumbled across browsing the web for new tunes to keep you readers happy. Parquet Courts are a New York/Texas based band featuring A. Savage an amazing musician known for his contributions to Teenage Cool Kids, Wiccans, and Fergus & Geronimo. Parquet Court's sound is hard to pin down. Parquet Court's sound is a mish mash of sounds including psych punk made popular by bands such as Woods and Later-era Meneguar to more straight forward punk. Added to this beautiful mess is a post punk sound influenced by bands such as Sonic Youth, Guided By Voices, and Built To Spill. This style might not be for some, but people open to hearing something new and different really need to give Parquet Courts a listen. Great stuff! Enjoy! The packaging on the cassette is brilliant and is made to look like an old chineese food take-out menu. Hit the band up via their wordpress page if you want a copy of the cassette.

Oh my, god this demo absolutely needs be heard to be believed! Seriously, it's that good. Lord Snow is a supergroup featuring members of Raw Nerve, Suffix, The New Yorker, and Laurtec. Lord Snow hail from Chicago, IL and play an amazing style of intelligent and emotive hardcore and screamo that's sure to be a hit for fans of Suffix, Beau Navire, Mahria, Logs, and older bands such as Off Minor and The Fiction. The vocals remind me of Suffix quite a bit, which obviously comes as no surprise. Lord Snow's demo features six songs of slowed down and powerful emotional hardcore/screamo. The recording on this demo is a little rough, but the band more than makes up for the sound quality by the passion and energy displayed on these songs. Great stuff! Enjoy!

Hell yes. Here's another split 7" I was really looking forward to hearing and was psyched to see hit the web earlier today. This split 7" features Dublin, Ireland's Drainland and Milwaulkee WI's Enabler. Regular readers of the blog know that both myself and Eraser are huge Drainland fans and I've also been really into Enabler's music since their inception. This split 7" is a perfect fit for Halo Of Flies and DeGraanRepubliek records. Now to the music. Drainland continue where they left off with their split 7" with Cellgraft released earlier this year via IFB records and offer up a new song of hulking, powerful, metallic, and crust inspired hardcore and solidifies with me that Drainland is showing no signs of slowing down. On the flip side of the 7" is Milwaulkee, WI's Enabler. Enabler offer up two new songs of ugly, dark, and brutally intense music that continues where the band left off with their split cassette with Ambassador Gun in 2011. Seriously, this is an amazing 7". My only complaint is that this release is too short and leaves me wanting more. Highly recommended! Enjoy!

Whores. - Ruiner. (2011)

Country: USA
Genre: Stoner, Sludge, Noise Rock
Label:
Brutal Panda
Tracks: 5
Length: 19
'

On any given night, Christian Lembach suffers anywhere between two and seven brain aneurysms; there's about a 35% chance that Travis Owen's drumsticks formerly played the roles of his tibiae; Jake Shultz's bass amp has caused clinical deafness in at least two dozen people. While none of the preceding statements are based whatsoever in fact, a listen or two through Ruiner just might get you wondering. The five-track debut EP from Atlanta's Whores. displays the trio's uncanny ability to put their angst, anguish, and general discontent into an audial form best described as a septum-bashing, and to do so without any gimmicks, frills, or blood-stained death-masks.

To put it one way, Lembach's unbridled songwriting very accurately reflects the fact that living amongst some of today's less than grateful, self-centered scumbags is often akin to brushing one's teeth with sandpaper. Ruiner is the barbed-wire floss to counteract that; it is the means by which these three southern noise-rockers bite back against the world's shitty ways and its shittier inhabitants. Opener 'Daddy's Money' recapitulates the story of that certain vapid, over-privileged bitch that everyone seems to know, whose father's rent checks just happen to go right up her button nose instead. Or take a track like 'Tell Me Something Scientific,' whose production and execution are as raw as its anti-religious-fundantalist message is obvious. Even the fact that the track's central riff and melody resembles those of the intro to 'Fake Life' just a little too closely is so easily forgivable considering the group's incredible propensity to grind their message home - in a nice way, if that's at all conceivable. Despite its noise-rock roots, nothing about Ruiner comes off as inaccessible: its unrelenting noisiness carries as much purpose and direction as its songwriting, meanwhile maintaining enough of their "fuck-off" attitude to lend the album its cutthroat allure. It vividly recalls and rehashes all of punk-rock's most essential mantras and motifs whilst supplementing them with some seriously pulverizing neo-monolithic riffage, cementing Ruiner as an end-of-the-year record worth delving back into a now retired 2011 for. -SpuntnikMusic

The Art Of Burning Water are a London, UK based band who play heavy, raw, and brutally crafted music that combines elements of hardcore, crust, sludge, and metal with killer results. The Art Of Burning Water's influences include Today Is The Day, Melvins, Neurosis, Coalesce, and Converge. Apparantly, this is the band's third album since 2006. Hell yes. I finally got my digital download for this album after preordering this split LP along with the new Prawn and The Saddest Landscape LPs through Topshelf records back in January and needed to immediately do this post. This split LP features three new songs by Las Vegas, NV's Caravels and two new songs from Harrisburg VA's Gifts From Enola. After an amazing 7" and the reissue of their Floorboards LP on Topshelf records in 2011, Caravels give us three new songs of forward thinking music that combines old school screamo mixed with layered post rock elements. These three songs show Caravels heading in a similar direction as label mates Pianos Become The Teeth, La Dispute, and Defeater. Gifts from Enola is a band I'm not too familiar with but I was definitely impressed by their side of the split LP. Gifts from Enola take a more straight forward approach with their music and give us two songs of angular and aggressive music that calls to mind a mix of hardcore played by bands such as Fugazi mixed with post rock elements of bands such as Tortoise. Overall, an amazing record. Highly recommended! Enjoy!

Iron Cages play a great style of blackened, metallic, melodic, and crust influenced hardcore and punk. This demo is the band's first recorded output and I was hooked from the start. Iron Cages display an intense level of crust influenced brutality that immediately made me think of Tragedy, From Ashes Rise, and The Holy Mountain. Iron Cages will definitely fit in with fellow area bands such as Protestant. Seriously, this demo is ridiculously well done. Another highly recommended listen for fans of His Hero Gone, Heartless, All Pigs Must Die, and Protestant.

You & I - Discography LP/Saturday's Cab Ride Home LP Reissue(1997-2011)

Country: USA
Genre: Hardcore, Punk, Screamo
Label: Alone Records/How Soon Is Now Records
Tracks: 33

You and I were a highly influential Brunswick, New Jersey based band that has influenced countless bands in their brief existence. In the late 90's You & I were a groundbreaking band that were brutal, crushing, yet had a knack to throw you for a loop and be melodic at times as well. You & I's lyrics were sincere, honest, and heartfelt without being too "emo" or contrived. You & I took the sheer heaviness and brutality of bands like Unbroken and Converge, and took that style of music and turned it on its head by adding the pop sensibilities of bands like Lifetime. On initial thought, you'd think this wouldn't work stylisitically, but the approach worked well for the band. Amazing stuff to say the least. Members of You & I went on to play in Hot Cross, The Assistant, and In First Person in the late 90's and early 2000's. Members of You & I can now be found playing in Black Kites and Less Life. On a sad note, Black Kites is officially calling it quits and are gearing up to play their final show soon. If you live in the New Jersey area, try to catch their final performance. As regular readers know, I'm a huge Black Kites and Less Life fan, so I'm definitely bummed out about hearing Black Kites calling it a day. All in all, You & I were an amazing band. Do yourself a favor and give these two albums a listen. Highly recommended! Enjoy!

As many of you have noticed, a lot of the links on the blog are dead and invalid. Unfortunately, mediafire deleted all my files last night due to what the file sharing service states were repeated uploading and sharing of copywrited material. I'll try to reupload as much as I possibly can. Luckily I have an external hard drive that houses all of my music. I will, however, avoid putting material on my mediafire account that jeopardizes my files from being deleted again in the future. With that said, some of the "offending" links will not be reposted. So be patient and I'll try to get as much back up as I can possibly can. Unfortunately, this will be a tedious process that can take weeks and will probably limit the amount I post during the next few weeks.

A Room With A View - Discography (CLASSIC)

Country: Spain
Genre: Post Hardcore, Jazzy Post Rock, Slowcore, Noise.
Label:
Heart in Hand, Recordings from the other side, AHC.

Influenced by bands like Fugazi, Hüsker Dü, Rites of Spring or Sonic Youth, his first five songs recorded in Barcelona in studies Locate 0 (where they recorded Aina, Stand Still, No More Lies). In 1998 they embarked on a tour of two weeks (the first days of it opening for Aina) by various parts of Spain.

Recorded in early 1999, again in Locate 0, its first album, "Addiction of Duplicities" published by his own label Heart in Hand. This record left behind his early compositions and ventured into darker music, intimate and lethargic, drinking both of Slint slowcore, Codeine and karate as The Cure (mainly from his album "Disintegration") and Joy Division.

In autumn 1999, driven by free jazz, improvisation and European noise and following the example of Dutch took to The Ex total improvisation, bringing this aspect to the stage a few months later.

Dropdead-Discography LP (1991-1993)

Country: USA
Genre: Hardcore, punk, thrash, powerviolence
Label: Armageddon Label
Tracks: 45

Dropdead are a highly influential hardcore, punk, thrash, and powerviolence band from Providence, Rhode Island who got their name from a Seige demo. Many modern bands owe this band credit for paving the way for today's current heavy music scene. Dropdead have been in existence since 1991 and as by the band's most recent split 7" with Converge, show no signs of letting up. Dropdead's sound encompasses Japaneese hardcore, punk, crust, and powerviolence with lyrics dealing with subjects such as animal rights, pacifism, and anti-authorianism.The band's songs are generally short and very fast-paced, with few lasting longer than one minute. This album was originally originally released in 1994 as an 11" LP on Clearview records and later as a 12" via UK based Flat Earth records in 1995. These 45 songs are a compilation of tracks from their first 7", their split 8" with Rupture, their split 5" with Crossed Out and several compilation songs. Do your homework and give these guys a listen. Highly recommended! Enjoy!

Nü Sensae - TV, Death And The Devil (2010)

Country: USA
Genre: Punk, Noise Rock
Label:
Nominal Records
Tracks: 12
Length: 29'

Vancouver, punk Mecca, strikes again with the debut album from Nu Sensae, a bass/drums duo that balances the theatricality and raw, impulsive bent of Lydia Lunch and Jim Foetus with the lumbering, grungy bellow of Babes in Toyland and L7. After a jarring, feverish one-sided 12” and a more polished, more aggressive single, the first full-length rips into it hard, the recording allowing Andrea Lukic’s voice to take on further nuance, while her bass playing is more menacing than before. A big ol’ statement, with lyric sheet and a six-panel poster of the band, which looks really cool. Aside from curating releases from Thee Best Scene in North America, Nominal has gotten in the habit of making a very striking-looking album, and the oversaturated B&W artwork and overall vibe of this sesh matches the heat of the album within. Most highly recommended. -Still Single

Are you a black mass bully with delusions of grandeur, craving to kick your peers into an early bliss at the pavlovian call of smothered strings and shattered skins ? Are you one drinking sour-sweet sweat from naked truths, clashing against walls of sound and laments on a bad moon rising ? Are you endlessly boxing your subcounscious with bags of ice cubes made from the unfiltered tears of street-level deities ? Have you ever been lured by third eyes winking at you from the bottom of the dream dumpster ? Look no further. WARSAWWASRAW is the sensitive blackhole were all your expectations have come, crashed, and successfully melted themselves into cogs of a software designed to churn out anthems of post-modern civilized despair in the face of time, excess and the absolute.

Trimmed down from a five piece to a threesome, the two hair-brained rethoric finally reached its current maximized number-to-efficiency ratio, sealing the deal to stir the air of city bleak and trauma with rude guitars and vulgar drums wrapped in a resin of spit and saliva.

BØREDØM - World Bores To Death (2011)

Country: Austria
Genre: Crust, Metal
Label:
Dzsukhell Records, Halvfabrikat Records, Panda Panda Records, WinHtein Distro, Shitpiece Records, Rope Or Guillotine Records, Thc and diy records.
Tracks: 11
Length: 34

Hello! We‘re Børedøm. We‘re doomed and we‘re bored and so are you. We‘re doomed as fuck in a shiathole called Graz/Gradec which is located in a pitiful and stupid nation state called Austria in a construct called Europe. We try to deal with that somehow. To some of us it seems like we‘re even more doomed than everyone else since we started this band in winter 2008/2009. We try to deal with that somehow. We like the idea of travelling around, playing loud and fast music and we like the idea of having a drink or two or even more together too. We try to deal with that somehow. We also like the idea of meeting new people and new places, even though we don‘t like humans in general. We try to deal with that somehow. We like the idea of seeing everything collapsing and as a result of that the chance to create something new, something better than this, which may not be really hard, as the current status quo is doubtlessly mid-tempo bullshit. Somehow we try to deal with that. Some of us like what we experience with this band and yes, they try to deal with that somehow. Most of us like even more ideas than this few mad ideas, even though they don‘t have a lot more most of the time. But they try to deal with that somehow. Everything that surrounds us bores to death, so do we. That´s what some of the people we met told us. And guess what, it seems like we have to, at least to try, to deal with that somehow. Because sometimes you have to face up the facts and then the only thing that remains is the fact that it’s still up to you in which way you want to get along with exactly all those facts.

Icon - Gallery - s/t (2011)

Country: USA
Genre: Punk Rock
Label:
Dear Skull
Tracks: 9
Length: 22

The EPs were great, but this full length realizes de vision that Icon Gallery have been working on for years. Total power, but in the form of infecctious guitar leads and vovals that could pass for Pat Benatar fronting a post hardcore outfit. Ican't thing of another punk band with vocals this distinct and demanding, but strangely I'm a drawn to the guitar instead (just as I was with the singles)-brillant '80s Mindwest hardcore riffs and tones are treated with a certified shredder, and the results are beyond fantastic. The songs on this LP are hopelessly catchy, with a burly rock 'n' roll vibe always lurking just beneath the surface, even when Icon Gallery more towards more emotional and/or introspective. Rarely do LPs sound fully realized, but his record is exactrly that, and it is amazing -WN @ Maximum Rock 'n' Roll

Omegas - NY Terminator EP (2011)

Country: Canada
Genre: Hardcore, Punk
Label: Painkiller Records
Tracks: 5

Hell yes, here's another EP I was dying to post in addition to the killer releases by Nazi Dust and Momentum. Hot on the heels of the band's highly acclaimed debut LP Blasts Of Lunacy, comes Omega's latest EP entitled NY Terminator. With this release, Omegas continue their onslaught of 80's influenced hardcore and punk. These five songs continue to pummel the listener and are a definite must listen for fans of Deep Sleep, Social Cirkle, Career Suicide, and anything 80's inspired as far as punk and hardcore is concerned. Overall, a great release that's over before you know it. Enjoy!

Momentum-Whetting Occam's Razor LP (2011)

Country: United Kingdom
Genre: Hardcore, Punk, Crust
Label:
Halo Of Flies

Tracks: 15

Damn, I don't know how I completely missed the boat when it comes to this band. Momentum are a London, UK based band formed in 2011. Momentum features members of Plague Mass, Light Bearer, Fall of Efrafa and XZieglerX, so you know you're in for something special before you even hear the band's music. Whetting Occam's Razor is the band's debut LP. Whetting Occam's Razor features fifteen tracks of driving, epic, heavy and melodic DIY hardcore punk. The music is both crushing and uplifting. Momentum ignores sub-genres and get back to the basics of playing fast and politically charged music. According to the band's bio, Momentum is influenced by the words of Carl Sagan and other philosophical/radical thinkers and thematically deals with the concept of our place in the universe as well as our day to day struggles as a human species in the current world in which we inhabit. Amazing Stuff! A definite must listen for fans of Aussitot Mort, Alpinist, Perth Express, and Tombs take note!

Anchor Brain

You know who these men are. They have been other men. Who they were before does not matter. What matters most is who they are now. These men, with two menacing guitars, violent drums, and wild words will fill that void in you. They will build bunkers out of your bones. They will make weapons out of your teeth. They will drink your tears and feed on your meat.
