Genre: Postmetal, Metal.

Su primer mini CD, editado en 2002 por In my Heart Empire, deja entrever primerizas influencias de Will Haven, Neurosis, Tool, Alice in Chains o Dut.

Country: Germany
Genre: Noise Rock, Posthardcore, Metal.

Finding a common musical ground does not ultimately require coming from the same scene or style. It doesn't even require coming from the same musical universe, as long as there is a deep appreciation for each other’s work and the ability and willingness to push some boundaries. Celan was conceived in early 2008 when Ari Benjamin Meyers (Redux Orchestra, Einstürzende Neubauten) and Chris Spencer (Unsane, Cutthroats 9) met in a bar in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin. Initially it was intended as a collaboration between two very different musicians: one a classically trained composer and the other had been working and touring in a noise/rock band for years. It's quite an ironic side note that this collaborative idea was born in Germany, probably the last remaining country in the world where music reception as well as broadcasting and medial representation are still determined by a separation between 'serious' and 'popular' music.

Sure, bands like the aforementioned Einstürzende Neubauten have been working for decades on tearing these walls down and celan might be another addition to this goal, although in a different manner. This album, titled 'halo', is rock! It touches the genre to its core and channels pure emotion into sound - as thick and massive as one could wish for, yet also fascinating in the way Ari Benjamin Meyers' skills add to and expand upon the blistering noise created by the rest of the band. But let's talk history first: After the initial concept was born at said Berlin bar it became obvious that this was more than a nice idea. The possibility of recording in the ex-Einstürzende Neubauten studio came up, and it seemed that the idea could indeed become reality. As months went by the whole thing began to take shape with the addition of Phil Roeder and Franz Xaver (both of ex-flu.ID fame) on bass and drums. Chris and the two met when flu.ID toured with Unsane in late 2007; they stayed in touch and became friends. Chris and Ari also met Niko Wenner (Oxbow) during the summer of 08, and the band was complete. In August 2008 they spent two weeks in the studio writing and recording from the get-go: they laid a full album down to tape in just two weeks.

The songs breathe deeply with this spontaneity and one can feel the chemistry between the members which accompanied the entire creation process. Every bit of every song tells it: it had to be done exactly this way. Ideas find their way and use the musician and his instrument as a medium, creating what we call good music literally by itself. Even though there is a lot of thought and creativity behind this album, this recording reveals its beauty through its compelling creational vibe. And here we are: halo is the debut album of celan - a band you can pigeon-hole at your own risk and categorize as noise, rock, avant-hardcore or whatever you like to call it. Please approach this masterpiece as we did: minds open, ready to be blown away by its sheer class, emotion, and musical craftsmanship.

Country: Spain
Genre: Hardcore, Metal.

COUNTRY: Spain.
GENRE: Noise, Industrial, Noise Rock, Experimental, Instrumental.

Florido Pensil es la hostia. Industrial, poderoso, marcial, oscuro. 9 cortes, 9 mazazos.

Si te gustan Godflesh, Merzbow o Kill the Thrill, Florido Pensil te pondrá.

Since 2004 TOWERS has been one of the hardest working DIY hardcore bands, touring every inch of the United States, not to mention a good chunk of Canada, United Kingdom, and Europe.

The band has released almost a dozen records, cd’s, and cassettes; the majority of them being self-released, and the majority of them also selling out with absolutely no distribution In 2008 TOWERS only played a handful of shows around their Towershomebase of Philadelphia, PA and took time to focus on writing and recording their sophomore full-length, and follow up to their self-titled debut CD/LP released on Electric Human Project/Turnstile.

Summer 2008 the band entered the studio with Steve Roche (Off Minor) to record Full Circle, which is the band’s greatest work to date. A great blend of technical and screamy intelligent hardcore.

COUNTRY: Serbia.
GENRE: Deathcore, Hardcore.

The band’s creation occurred during the summer of 2007. Consisting of members from different hardcore and metal bands, the band has tried to steer itself in the same direction. The whole deal is basically mosh-metal with a shitload of melody and an immense influence of hardcore. In similarity to other bands, Deadrise have their principles and stick to them! Lyrics are mainly punk oriented with a heavy dosage of hatred to any sort of social and political injustice. Pollution, monopolism, any type of chauvinism, any religious fanaticism, along with any form of manipulating the human consciousness and prejudices are what the band opposes and fights against. Basically, without unnecessary ambition, the band exists for the sheer pleasure of its members. Just five good friends, having a good time, contributing to the music they love and presenting their beliefs while trying to positively influence the youth and its awareness. Every show is an opportunity for a good time, meeting new people and learning a few things here and there… and get hammered as well!

COUNTRY

GENRE: Post-metal, doom

OdeOnDreams - Arena (2009)

01. Arena
02. 0+0=6
03. No Balance

COUNTRY: Spain.
GENRE: Post Rock, Shoegaze.

OdeOnDreams is a young band -so much the average age of its members, as by the time of shooting that lead (just a couple of years)-, that in a short time, has made a dent in the musical scene from Malaga. With clear influences of the shoegazer, indie and post-rock sounds characteristic of the last decade, this band fruit of the Myspace Generation (wich doesn't need to sell thousands of discs "to triumph"), takes over the Do It Yourself spirit of the late seventies and get it to limit in these times. With a couple of home-made recordings, the band has visited several times the main rooms of concerts of their city, and have made known their music in places so shoot as for example: The hall of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Malaga (where they decided to play completely in the dark and the movie "The Elephant Man" by David Lynch projected on them as the only illumination), industrial warehouses rented to carry out private parties, high-capacity audiences, town squares and hardcore music festivals, among other places.

OdeOnDreams is emotion. Instrumental music that seeks the expressiveness not only in the chord changes, but also in volume, intensity and texture. Tension, calmness, strength, balance, pulse... are the words with which they could define their sound, characterized by the total absence of voices (as well as silences in their 40 minutes of performance) and the creation of sinuous and disturbing atmospheres. For now, they haven’t won any prize, they haven’t participated in any prestigious event, they haven’t played witn any "important band" and they have nothing more to offer than their music. A music that, if you want, you can listen it here and now.

--------------------------

The show stars Peter Krause as Nathaniel Samuel ("Nate") Fisher Jr., the son of a funeral director who, upon the death of his father (Richard Jenkins), reluctantly becomes a partner in the family funeral business with his brother David, played by Michael C. Hall. The Fisher clan also includes mother Ruth (Frances Conroy) and sister Claire (Lauren Ambrose). Other regulars include mortician and family friend Federico Diaz (Freddy Rodriguez), Nate's on-again, off-again girlfriend Brenda Chenowith (Rachel Griffiths), and David's on-again, off-again boyfriend Keith Charles (Mathew St. Patrick). On one level, the show is a conventional family drama, dealing with such issues as relationships, infidelity, and religion.

At the same time, it is a show distinguished by its unblinking focus on the topic of death, which it explores on multiple levels (personal, religious, and philosophical). Each episode begins with a death — anything from drowning or heart attack to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome — and that death usually sets the tone for each episode, allowing the characters to reflect on their current fortunes and misfortunes in a way that is illuminated by the death and its aftermath. The show also has a strong dosage of dark humor and surrealism running throughout. A recurring plot device consists of a character having an imaginary conversation with the deceased; for example, Nate, David, and Federico sometimes "converse" with the person who died at the beginning of the episode, while they are being embalmed or planning or during the funeral.

Sometimes, the conversation is with other recurring deceased characters, most notably Nathaniel Fisher Sr. The show's creator Alan Ball states they represent the living character's internal dialogue by exposing it as an external conversation.

LIMP WRIST - S/T (2009)

1. To The Grave
2. Bought Out
3. Dead Weight
4. Collapse
5. Spun
6. Knuckles
7. S.T.A.

Country: USA
Genre: Hardcorepunk

Hardcore's gender benders are back with a one-sided 12"ep of more gay-positive punk played at top speed and featuring Martin of Los Crudos on vocals.

Insuiciety - The Cure For The Truth (2008)

01. in circles
02. left for dead
03. simple story
04. dark clouds
05. mindrot

COUNTRY: Germany.
GENRE: Sludge, Stoner, Punk.

Finally coming up with their first full-length, this multicultural band creates an ugly bastard of Black Sabbath metal, hardcore punk and sample-loaded atmospherical noise passages. Sheer heavy riffs, punishing drums and stomach-deep bass-humming over which a tortured female voice expresses both hate and desperation roll slowly, but unstoppable towards the overwhelmed listener. Just as Kylesa are leaving their path with their recent album, INSUICIETY are ready to take over the crown of "heavy tribal punk"!

RQTN - WE WERE... WE ARE(2008)

1. Morning And Handwritten Letter
2. Of Course... They All Died
3. She Left Me When I Was On The Battlefield
4. All My Feelings Were Fake
5. Passing Out In Front Of Us

Country: France
Genre: Post Rock, Instrumental Rock.

RQTN was born from the ashes of the now-defunct French hardcore band, AtheistPrayer. Guitarist Mathieu Artu enlisted a few friends, including GregoryHoepffner from Time to Burn, for this decidedly more downtempo affair. WhileRQTN is more relaxing than its parent band, this long EP (5 songs, 39 minutes)could have used a bit more of daddy's fire. Granted, this is meant to be apost-rock/ambient production (and it's nice to see someone actually definethemselves as post-rock these days), but there's nothing in the books that saysit has to be so calm.
Part of the problem may be the transition between genres, one which is easy toemulate, but hard to imitate. RQTNs album and website imagery containsvestigial references to a more violent past. The dominant imagery is that ofWWII: black and white photos of an anguished soldier, a worried mother lookingskyward, a boat discharging soldiers at Normandy. And yet the music fails toconjure up the requisite subject matter or emotion, presenting a soothing patinawhen we expected a requiem. Only the first track, Morning and HandwrittenLetters, comes close, but as such, it might have worked better as a closingtrack. This former TSB Track of the Week is well-deserving of accolades. Thesong is anchored by a recurrent five-note xylophone theme, supported by athree-note violin theme and some highly effective military drums, reminiscent ofLarry Mullens work on U2s The Joshua Tree. Simple, but it works.
After this fantastic opener, the EP begins to nod into a post-rock nap, theideas coming slower as the tunes progress. Of Course, They All Died is thealbums second track and second-best song. This track is what most would calltypical post-rock, a languid series of peaks and valleys culminating in asubdued crescendo. The accompanying video contains some nice footage of canyonsand clouds in fast-forward, followed by scenes of streetwalks and cars, a laKoyaanisqatsi, and concludes with clouds moving over a city of electric lights. This is all very appealing, but unfortunately, its familiar ground. Perhaps allnovices in the post-rock field need to start this way, testing the templatebefore expanding their horizons.
The third track is the third-best song, the fourth is the fourth-best, and thefifth you guessed it is the most disposable. Track three, She Left Me WhenI Was on the Battlefield, offers piano over a light rainstorm (again, a clich, but a nice clich). I suppose we are supposed to feel sorry for the poorsoldier, but the music just doesnt sound that sad. Most folks would just callit pretty. All My Feelings Were Faked; features an ambient guitar with slightreverb. Well call this one pleasant. The closer, Passing Out in Front ofUs, features competent but unnecessary vocals. All of this makes one want toplay the opening track once more to remind ourselves of how good RQTN can be.
Artu and company are certainly talented, and this is an above-average release, but the music and the subject matter are at odds, and the disparity is somewhatworrisome. Perhaps in this digital age, it is incongruous to quibble aboutimagery when reviewing an audio release, but some images are so powerful thatthey create an aura of expectation, and the music here simply does not fulfillit. Worth the six euros for those who live in Europe, others should decide basedon their pay scale.

In a time where style rules over substance, it's no surprise that the truly great bands remain unnoticed if they don't have the cool haircuits. B.Abuse is one of those bands. Their kind of dark and gloomy doom-sludge-destructo-rock is up there with all your fave Isis-rip offs. Or, wait... actually it's much better. But please don't care. This band is not on Hydra Head or Southern Lord. This record is not limited. That means you are not going to buy this anyway. (YUMMY)

Kiruna - Penundaan (2008)

01. Kwa Zulu Natal
02. Bunk Morland
03. Two's a crowd
04. From Marrakech to rabat inside out
05. Circles of affection

COUNTRY: France
GENRE: Noise Rock, Posthardcore.

Kiruna has never been and never will be the kind of band who'll start to think before rocking it hard. 1 bass riff by track to settle it down, 4 chords played with teeth to make it sharp, 1 full year to make a record only a one-sided LP though, 6 month to print 250 covers with endless surprises, and in 3 years from now they'll still have the most of it to build shelves with. But who cares, they just smash it up and the real new thing is you'll remember the vocals for the next 5 years. New one-sided LP for KIRUNA.

Last Minute To Jaffna - Volume I (2008)

01. Chapter X
02. Chapter VI
03. Chapter VIII
04. Chapter V
05. Chapter XI

Country: Italy
Genre: Experimental /Post-Metal/ Post-hardcore / Ambient
