Playing from 1996, it is one of the band that really diserve to be more known in the noise musical background. Playing music between Sloy and Modest Mouse they anyway have their own style which is really difficult to define. People usually say that it reminds them a lot of bands without reminding them any of them .... -Whosbrain Records-

Genre. clásica, minimalista

Arvo Pärt (born 11 September 1935 in Paide) is an Estonian composer, often identified with the school of minimalism and more specifically, that of “holy minimalism” or “sacred minimalism”. He is considered a pioneer of this style, along with contemporaries Henryk Górecki and John Tavener.

"Für Alina" was written in 1976 and "Spiegel im Spiegel" in 1978. Both compositions have a very simple structure (Für Alina's partiture is only 2 pages long) and depend very much on improvisation. The original versions of these beautiful pieces were only a couple of minutes long, but the recording made in 1999 collects much longer versions of them.

I had a Jesus Lizard tape in high school...I think it had flames on it...I remember that...I liked it, I might have not appreciated it the way I would now in hindsight. I need to hear this progression. I know they are really important, like Flipper, I missed them a little bit and could use a crash course like this box set. Either way, I'll work on getting some of the full lengths on vinyl and try to revisit these guys.

My recollection is they have a lot in common with Shellac...that kind of slow sinister big sounding 90's rock. Huge rooms of drum echo. They settle into this weird repetitive groove and just ride it...it's really taking me back, the sound quality...the ay things were recorded...there is some kind of production that's a distinct part of sound from this period. Was everything recorded by that Flood guy? -7inches-

Country: Malta.
Genre: Metalcore, Death Metal .
Label: Anticulture.

Slit’s 2006 ‘Ode To Silence’ is an album which brings to light the concepts of how the mafia’s (la malavita) ways are fused into people’s ideology and everyday living. ‘’You cannot fully understand the ways of the mafia in places like Malta and Sicily if you haven’t lived in the country for a number of years’’ explains the band’s bassist Joker, who alongside drummer Gerald and vocalist Frank wrote the band’s second album as a 3 piece. Tracks such as ‘Omerta’, ‘White Shotgun’, ‘Down the gut’ and ‘Il-Halfa’ sees the band delving into accentuating their local Maltese heritage, as Frank explains ‘’The Mafia in Malta and Sicily is not about fancy cars, guns and designer suites the way Hollywood movies depict , it’s about corruption as a means to survival’’

Without compromising the sheer heaviness which became a trademark of their sound ‘Ode to Silence’ continues where Slit’s first album ‘Cronaca Nera’ (released on Retribute Records in 2005) left off. A mixture of thrash, death, sludge, hardcore
which makes the band hard to define in terms of genre but at the same time a defining pinnacle in extreme music Following the release Omar Grech (from one of death metal’s most respected underground acts Beheaded) became Slit’s fourth full time member and guitarist

Anticulture Records released the band’s album in Sept 2006 after following closely Slit’s rise in the UK underground circuit backed
by countless DIY tours since 2001 which gained the band a reputation of one of the most hard working new acts. Capable of holding court with any comers in the scene, Slit have shared the stage with likes of Rotting Christ, Red Harvest, Grimfist, Viking Skull, Susperia, Man Must Die, Gutworm, Happy Face and more, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

Enter 2007 Slit hit the road again this time in France and Switzerland to which they will return in June as part of the line up in Hellfest alongside giants such as Machine Head, Hatebreed, Cannibal Corpse, Megadeth, Kreator and more

Shane Ochsner, Josh Silbernagel, Chris Schwartz and Jerik Hendricksoncollectively are Hands, a Fargo band that combines circling atmospheric guitars punctuated with hard hitting progressions. They are a band in which rock and roll meets ambient hardcore and warm silvery singing rivals hardcore screams. The warmth of their songs is in strong contrast to the raw biting North Dakota weather that surrounds them. Their songs are carefully crafted and layered with hope and strength, their evocative lyrics and emotional vocals leave Hands open-hearted to listeners. Ochsner's voice carries seamlessly from throaty growl to melodic yell and settles beautifully into sweet harmony as the songs progress.

Since forming in 2007 Hands have desired to present a passionate and intense live show. Now, a year later, they offer a performance that is characterized by what dummer Josh Silbernagel calls "beautiful chaos." Hands unfurl hugely anthemic prog-rock ballads bearing the influence of Isis while at the same time laying out solidly progressive hardcore tracks inspired by bands such as Life In Your Way and Misery Signals. After writing a concept album for release on Lobster/Oort Records, Handshas now teamed up with Facedown Records for a summer 2009 release

Oswego was formed in Washington, D.C. in 1999 by Erik Denno (Kerosene 454), Darren Zentek (Donora, Glendale, Kerosene 454), Chris Turco (Kukim), and Mike Markarian (Vita Bruno), and was later joined by Ryan Nelson (Most Secret Method) and Vin Novara (1.6 Band, Crownhate Ruin). They played shows around the D.C./Baltimore area from 1999 to 2001, at venues such as Galaxy Hut, Black Cat, Fort Reno, Velvet Lounge, and Ottobar, with bands such as Burning Airlines, Dismemberment Plan, Victory at Sea, and Juno.

The group recorded with producer J. Robbins in 2000 at Inner Ear Studio in Arlington, Virginia, and Salad Days Studio in Washington, D.C. The songs were released on the Spanish label Bcore Disc as the Just Getting Warmed Up EP in 2000, and an eponymous full-length CD in 2002. After Oswego disbanded, members of the group went on to play with other musical projects, principally around D.C., Baltimore, and New York, such as Report Suspicious Activity, Channels, Brandon Butler, Rancho Notorious, Dead Teenagers, The Perfect Souvenir, Trans Am, Pines of Nowhere, Scene Creamers, Beauty Pill, Routineers, and Soccer Team.

A no-name pre-Knife In The Leg band was formed in June 2006 having only 2 of today’s members in the line-up (Ralph Punchline on vocal duties and Linux Pete operating the drums). At that time Wojti Smashism was the bass player and Skubol, a founding father and the band's name inspirator, was the guitar player. Inspired by early Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys and ETA (the Swedish thrash band, not the Basque terrorist organisation, you dork!) they formed the band to have a break from their darker/heavier/faster bands. After writing 2 songs they split up due to Skubol moving to Ireland. At the break of October and December at some drunken party the idea of forming a lighter band came back... Inspired by vast amounts of alcohol, watching "The Decline of Western Civilization" and listening to newer Swedish bands i.e. Regulations - the guys decided to create our local version - "the decline of eastern civilization" - so Ralph, Pete and Wojti co-opted Rudy Valentino to play the guitar. Since Rudy is better in playing the role of background as he isn’t a virtuoso in playing solos - Kaymeal (aka K.Ill Discipline) was asked to join in as the second guitar player. After 2 band practices Wojti left the band and Mike Champagne was called to fill in. Having known each other for a while and some of them already having played in the same bands before they played their first 3 gigs after about 2,5 weeks. After 6 months of playing together they recorded 11 songs, two of which you can hear on this shitspace (and soon you will be able to listen to these songs on two upcoming EP's). In october 2007 KITL did their first tour (2 weeks in southern Europe with The Fight). In november 2007 they recorded some more songs and soon after that Rudy Valentino moved to Ireland and was replaced in 2008 by Roland T. Flakfizer. In july 2008 Linux Pete was replaced by Lively Hank.

As a band they come from Lublin, though 3 out of 5 members are not born Lubliners. Ralph is from Pulawy (the city known best for it's 80's hardcore punk legend Siekiera and being the polish heroin capital in the 80's) and Kaymeal is from Lomazy near Biala Podlaska, where cops shoot to kill. While Roland currently resides in Warsaw, this fucked country's capital. Lublin has it's reputation for being the Polish Portland, since not many punks here are active musicians, but at times the number of bands is as high or even higher than the number of people playing in our local hc/punk bands. Lublin is also one of the most active Polish city if we're talking gigs. At least 1 or 2 shows a month, sometimes more, always with some touring band from abroad, or at least some "bigger" polish hc/punk band. Members of Knife In The Leg also play or have played in bands like Government Flu, The Bold And The Beautiful,Daymares, All Day Hell, This Means War!, Silence, The Fight, In Vitro, Michelle Was Wrong, Gas Chamber Melodies, Poem After Auschwitz - naming only the ones that released records, or at least played more than 1 gig.
So here you are fuckers- KNIFE IN THE LEG – yet another LBN PUNK commando corps!

Label: Grot, A389 Recordings.

Finally available from Grot Records is the incredibly long overdue debut CD release from Rot in Hell, by far one of the finest hardcore bands out there right now. (Also available on vinyl from A389 Recordings.) Included are all of the songs from the band's vinyl releases to date – the 2007 demo 7" (a.k.a. "Sins of Malice"), the "Millennial Psychosis" split 7" with Brain Dead, the split 7" with Hordes, and "The Works of Fate" split 7" with The Process – as well as a handful of other tracks that, for the most part, have yet to be released elsewhere (as far as I know). As I've discussed here a few times in the past (and am sure to do again in the future), expect nothing but top-notch metallic hardcore heavily influenced by the classic "holy terror" sound pioneered by Integrity, as well as flourishes reminiscent of Ringworm and Gehenna, alongside their own wickedly raw and explosive aesthetic.

You'll find short, explosive bursts of power chords with loads of tactfully chaotic leads straight out of the early Integrity handbook, maniacally screamed/shouted vocals as well as a few cryptic whispers, slower midpaced rhythms that flirt with darker atmospheres, and searing little bits of feedback galore. And then there's 8+ minute closer "Now, Today, Tomorrow, and Always", which heads in an entirely different direction with beautiful acoustic guitars and faint samples amidst distant, obscured singing and quivering experimental noise textures. In addition, this 12-track release contains four of the absolute best fucking cover songs ever recorded: "Final Word" (Meanstreak), "Kingdom of Heaven" (Integrity), "Skincrawl" (Ironside), and "Chunks" (Last Rights). I mean, holy shit… come on! You just don't get much better song choices than that! This is an absolutely outstanding collection that's sure to be among the best releases of 2009. I'm a huge fan, and can't wait to hear more…Aversionline

So we've been into the p-rock thing for a while, got jaded, went into rampant hipsterism and started clubbing and taking drugs, and fucking girls with horn-rimmed glasses....what the fuck makes us crawl back into a sexually deprived hell hole of basement shows, vinyl records that take up far too much space, retarded arguments and t-shirts that fade in the first wash? For me, its bands like Slices that do the trick.

I admit it, i'm a sucker for this kind of sound, ugly, noisy, furious hardcore punk, that takes later period Black Flag as a blueprint to go wherever the fuck they feel like going. In a way, it's similar to what Born Against or End Of The Line did 20 years ago, but it's not an imitation in sound or attitude, reviews have tagged it as 'Crossed Out playing 'My War' side B' and while i'm not really 100% into that, i'll admit it's a pretty good working description. I'm reviewing both their 7"s on Home Invasion and 160h records (i need a copy of this, be nice, i'm broke), being as they are from the same recording session, and all i can say is they are on constant rotation on my ipod and turntable.

Music that can be hard, ugly, fast, noisy, dirgey, slow, with lyrics that don't insult my intelligence, a recording that is powerful and crunchy without being overproduced and an awesome attention to detail when it comes to the record layout/packaging, which is what makes it worthwhile to actually buy a record in the end, this brings to mind the same feel as all those early 90s records: Heroin, Born Against, Crossed Out, End Of The Line, Rorschach, Cop Out...just pure gut-level hardcore punk without retro posing, scene style guides to follow, pretentious and badly played out 'slickness', or ridiculous attempts and being 'professional'...all i need really.

With their own melodic (but still raging!) brand of punk, Philadelphia's Witch Hunt have joined the ranks of the Bat and offered up their 3rd & finest full-length yet! Their political yet personal lyrics and breakneck speeds recall the hardcore of yore while their male/female vocal harmonies and chorused-out guitar-leads channel the moodiness of the classic peace-punk/post-punk sound. Fans of Husker Du, The Mob, Born Against, and Bikini Kill take note.

Philadelphia's Witch Hunt have joined the ranks of the Bat and offered up their 3rd & finest full-length yet! Formed in 2001 as a New Jersey trio, Witch Hunt soon moved their brand of aggressive punk to Philadelphia where they expanded their lineup to a four-piece and continued to evolve their sound as abilities caught up to ideas. That evolution is evident in their AT debut, Burning Bridges to Nowhere, which blends the primal rage of hardcore, the melodic-sense of Husker Du, and the moodiness of UK peace-punk into an album that will leave genre-purists scratching their heads and (hopefully) have ALL fans of hardcore-punk walking and/or rocking together a little more often!Fans of AT's BlackNoise imprint and groups like I OBJECT and NAUSEA and even DISASTER STRIKES will love this, but anyone into melodic punk with screaming female vocals will also dig this!

TITAN - Discography

Toronto, Ontario's aptly named TITAN puts the listener in a stranglehold from the first seething instance of feedback and doesn't relent until the very last jack-hammer of the bass drum has finished. TITAN are a blitzkrieg of vicious guitar accented by a commanding rhythm section and laced throughout with the ferocity of the lead vocalist. Quoting influences such as the early material of doom pioneers Neurosis, Canadian hardcore legends Uranus and metal/hardcore masters Converge, TITAN has managed to create something powerful, extreme and ultimately unique. The allure of TITAN's immense and brutal sound is just as present in their live show as it is on record.

In First Person & Titan Split 7"(2006)

01 - In First Person - En Sabah Nur
02 - Titan - Throne Of Blood

In First Person had another recent split, this one being a seemingly simple 7" with one song on the A side and Titan offering a single contribution on the flip.

In First Person's "En Sabah Nur" is easily one of the best songs in their catalog. It begins with Benn Roe cackling over screechy, jammed riffs, then explodes into the restrained, orderly mess the band are coming to make their own, with spectacular vocal and guitar interplay. Then there's a bridge that builds and builds into a superb climax.
Titan play a screamy, heavy hardcore type on the other side, complete with growled, bellowing vocals to offer changeups from the more shrill screams; overall, "Throne of Blood" reminds me of Balboa's more chaotic moments, though comparisons have found them more alongside acts like Neurosis and Buried Inside. Either way, definitely a worthy followup for an epic 7".

Titan - Colossus EP (2008)

01 - The Glory Of The Fleet
02 - Attention
03 - The Standard
04 - Next Winter
05 - His Eminence

I have decided to redo my initial review of this EP because it was weak. Toronto's Titan truly come by their name honestly. Colossus is awesome. It carries some of the hardcore element of previous releases but there is plenty of doom. They have such a huge sound! They have a way of transitioning between styles effortlessly. As in "Next Winter", when it's going in this heavy hardcore mode, screamin' balls off assault and then at about the 3 min mark, everything drops away but some guitar plucking, and then WHAM!! crushing doom. Like funeral doom crushing. With some of the most evil belched vocals I've heard that don't sound like someone throwing up. The vocal range is fantastic. Colossus is full of energy and even when it slows down, there is still crushing power and a different kind of energy. It's like you can hear the train coming, you're on the tracks, you can't move. It's getting closer, you're waiting for impact. Then it hits. But it doesn't hurt. I feels better than before. As the train rolls through you, it transfers the energy. Making you feel larger than life. Infusing you with a sense of power. The piano moments in "His Eminence" allow for some much needed breathing room. Having seen Titan live only enhances the feeling of heavy. I can envision them playing the songs. I'll plan better for next time. I won't go right from the tattoo shop to the show. Colossus by Titan. Titanic. Colossal.
