HERDS - LP After two awesome 7"s HERDS enters the sometimes dicey terrain of placing their hardcore punk onto an LP, and the band has thankfully presented us with a well-written and nicely sequenced full-length. On this record HERDS plays fourteen fast hardcore songs that are on the cusp of heavy and often stray into mid-tempo and slow pacing. The riffs are burly, the breaks and choruses tend to crush in a non-traditional way, and there's a solid layer of low-end that coats the songs without suffocating them. HERDS adds a bit of primitive, slow pounding to a couple tracks and these parts work to create an isolated, bleak atmosphere, which begins to permeate the LP upon further listens (in a good way). The LP offers a lot of variety and the slower/heavier songs are generally followed by a fast bashing, which is always nice. After a couple listens, I'm ready for another. Herds are a hardcore, punk band from Milwaulkee, Wisconsin (USA) and feature members of Charles Bronson, Get Rad, and Threatener. Definitely check this out if you enjoy modern hardcore similar to Cult Ritual, Sex Vid, and Brainhandle!
