Fans of older Off Minor material will notice that Some Blood picks where 2004's Innominate left off, immediately launching you into their chaotic combination of hardcore punk and jazzy math rock. The instrumentation here is tighter than ever before, with impressive bass work and jazz-inspired guitar lines. Anyone into hardcore, punk, and mathrock should definitely check this band out. Unfortunately, I think this is Off Minor's last album, seeing they called it a day in 2009.

Lewd Acts is a hardcore band from San Diego, California, featuring the guitarist from Internal Affairs. Black Blue Eyes is a great change of pace for the sometimes stagnant rut that modern hardcore finds itself in at times. Lewd Acts threw me for a loop with their latest release. Black Blue Eyes finds the band taking the sounds of bands like Ruiner or Modern Life Is War and adding noise rock and blues to the mix. Lewd Acts has defintely taken a step forward in honing their sound with this release. Highly recommended if you enjoy bands like Modern Life Is War and Ruiner.

Nails is a hardcore/punk band from the US featuring Todd Jones from Carry On and Terror on vocals. Nails play a heavy, fast, and metallic style of hardcore and punk that can be described as sounding like Entombed covering Napalm Death and Drop Dead, according to the description from six feet under record's website. Unquiet Death is Nails follow-up to 2009's Obscene Humanity released on Deathwish Records. I haven't heard this yet but wanted to post this. Nails-Obscene Humanity reminded me of the metallic style of hardcore played by current bands such as Pulling Teeth and Trap Them. Comadre is a hardcore band from San Carlos, California who fuse 90's Ebullition styled screamo similar to bands such as Orchid or Portraits Of Past with the aggressiveness of bands like Catharsis and add touches of traditional hardcore into a sound that is heavy, urgent, and crushing all at the same time. A Wolf Ticket brings 8 songs of politically fueled venom to the table on a one-sided 12" ep. The B side is beautifully etched on brown colored vinyl. Great effort from these guys. This is Comadre's fifth release and shows the growth of the band into new directions and much improved talent. Definitely recommended if you enjoy bands like Touche Amore, Relics, Furnace, Trainwreck, Orchid, Portraits of Past.

HERDS - LP After two awesome 7"s HERDS enters the sometimes dicey terrain of placing their hardcore punk onto an LP, and the band has thankfully presented us with a well-written and nicely sequenced full-length. On this record HERDS plays fourteen fast hardcore songs that are on the cusp of heavy and often stray into mid-tempo and slow pacing. The riffs are burly, the breaks and choruses tend to crush in a non-traditional way, and there's a solid layer of low-end that coats the songs without suffocating them. HERDS adds a bit of primitive, slow pounding to a couple tracks and these parts work to create an isolated, bleak atmosphere, which begins to permeate the LP upon further listens (in a good way). The LP offers a lot of variety and the slower/heavier songs are generally followed by a fast bashing, which is always nice. After a couple listens, I'm ready for another. (Cissie Scurlock) /Maximum Rock N' Roll.

Herds are a hardcore, punk band from Milwaulkee, Wisconsin (USA) and feature members of Charles Bronson, Get Rad, and Threatener. Definitely check this out if you enjoy modern hardcore similar to Cult Ritual, Sex Vid, and Brainhandle!

This is the first release from this French band and on it we find six tracks very evenly spread out over twenty-four minutes. Even though this is a new band the members have served time in many others before this – something that becomes quite apparent as it’s easy to hear that they’re no novelties when it comes to playing and creating music. Other than that, based on the prior bands I actually know of (Fatal Nunchaku), I wouldn’t say there are any resemblances.

Musically this sort of brings me back to the 90’s Euro-crust scene and there are times when I want to compare this to a little less melodic, and somewhat heavier, version of Fleas and Lice. I would also guess that they’re inspired by the current neo-crust scene in Europe as well as a couple of regular straight up punk rock bands, mixing it all together into the fast paced and hard hitting hardcore punk that is the outcome.

Even if the music might be “neo-crust light” the lyrics are not, as there’s a lot of darkness, pain, and loneliness in them – inspired by anything from J.R.R. Tolkien and Stig Dagerman to the members own reflections and dreams, and it’s all very emo/poetic.Personally I feel that Tol Eressëa have laid down a solid foundation musically on which they can build something big, but they’ve got some more road to travel before they’ll stand out from the crowd.-attackfanzine-
