Rational Animals - Bock Rock Parade LP (2011)

Country: USA
Genre: Hardcore, Punk, Noise Rock
Label: Katorga Works Records
Tracks: 8

Label Bio: A true heavy metal band from Rochester, NY. Rational Animals have exceeded even our overly-generous expectations with their debut LP, Bock Rock Parade. The band made a name for itself on its first two 7"s with its modern stylings on late-era Black Flag and general Greg Ginn-worship, but it's clear that the band has come a long way from that point. Incorporating a wide variety of newer influences into its already atypical hardcore blueprint, the band has developed and progressed its sound into something absolutely fresh and essential.

*The description from the label is pretty much spot on and I can't do any better describing Rational Animal's debut LP. I guess, mix equal parts Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Cult Ritual, and Soul Swallower, serve over ice, garnish with a hefty dose of hate and you'll get the perfect recipe for an amazing album. Great stuff. Highly recommended! Enjoy!

Condominium - Warm Home LP (2011)

Country: USA
Genre: Post Punk, Noise Rock, Hardcore
Label: Self Released
Tracks: 7

Condominium are a St. Paul, MN based band who play a great style of music that encompasses elements of post punk, hardcore, and noise rock that results in a cohesive sound drawing from various influences. Condominium's sound encompasses elements of AMREP noise rock, angular/art damaged post punk, scuzzy hardcore, and occasional bits of experimentation. Condominium's style is not easily pigeonholed and can be compared to a mixture of sounds ranging from 90's AMREP bands and Jesus Lizard, to more modern sounding bands such as Slices, Cult Ritual, and Nomos. Overall, the seven songs on Warm Home blaze by in about 22 minutes, defy catagorization, and result in a great listen. Unfortunately, Warm Home was limited to 752 copies and appears to be sold out. Hopefully we'll see a repress soon. Highly recommended. Enjoy!

We're a relatively new band from athens, Greece. We usually call what we play experimental black metal, but our influences range from krallice, to isis, to orchid. this is our debut album, it will be released by a small recording label here in greece, but we've decided to send it for free anyway.

Another great black metal band send us their release, good sound; not like these bands that record in a cave, good lyrics; not bullshit about Satan, virgin's blood, Conan's sword or burn churches.

Curasan - Curasangre (2011)

Country: Spain
Genre: Emo, Math.

Curasan is a tetraband using post-classic instruments: fender re-issues, cheap flyin v, japan basses, drumsticks, second hand cymbals and Ondoloin's essential ludwig drumkit .

For this record, we have been blessed with the presence of Nico (from Seal of Quality, Alaska Pipeline, we are the robots, etc...) and Hoctor (from Decurs, 50 yetis, Ojalastemibici,...). Nico played the keyboard, the guitar, the xylophone and made some wonderful singing. Hoctor made his profesional vocal exercises and sang the highest vocals in the record. Without potasa.

Curasan are old friends of the blog, and after various EP and splits, this is their first full-length, and I bet three fingers (the least commonly used), which ends up being one of the best albums of the genre of the year.

Both bands compliment each other well on this album and play a great style of music influenced by Tragedy, His Hero Is Gone, From Ashes Rise, The Holy Mountain, and Cursed. Selenites is a band from Toulouse, France. The band plays a great style of music that incorporates elements of post hardcore, post metal, and post rock that results in a massively epic sound. Animaltar is the band's follow-up to 2010's Jeder Fur Sich Und Gott Gegen Alle Lp. I can't believe how much the band has grown and progressed on their latest album. Selenites have developed more of a post metal sound this time around and the results have definitely paid off. The best way for me to describe Selenites' current sound is to imagine Envy mixed with Aussitot Mort. Seriously, this is an incredible album. Highly recommended!

I've only seen these gloomy apocalypse metallers once, but was struck by their ability to hold my interest through one drawn out epic after another. This demo starts with a whiskey drenched solo laden intro, and then the metal comes in waves, taking ASBESTOS DEATH style trudging doom, combining it with stoner, black and prog metals, and making the whole operation sound new and relevant. The GENESIS CLIMBER and ACTS OF SEDITION drummer sits behind the throne for this operation, which explains much of the technical proficiency you are about to listen to...good jams.(terminal escape)

Tracks: 9

The repertoire of 'My Daily Dose Of Hope' begins with 'Our Last Sigh', which comes to assume a kind of introduction chaotic and hectic moments. In 'The Dose' the group reveals all its rawness, and the album reaches its minutes and then convincing the rapid succession of brief, 'Spit Your Fears', the intense' Les Soldats Perduts' and, above all, a 'Walls 'delicate beginning high speeds and then adorned with a spatial environments almost guitars that adorn retuerecen and looking for the metal. The rest of the album and this offer does not improve, but still a decent way to fast and concise 'Poisoned Dreams', the broken and restless fierce metalcore 'Eyeless', the speed of 'Secret Place' and the long and gloomy tone slow 'Outside The Circle'. Thus, on this album confirms what we already knew, that there is nothing more than Based On A Lie is one of the rising stars of the current national hardcore, and that in film because, they are able to produce something spectacular. Meanwhile, 'My Daily Dose Of Hope' is a clear, if somewhat brief - just half an hour - an indication of its undeniable potential.

Autarkeia - S/T LP (2011)

Country: USA
Genre: Posthardcore, Emo
Label: IFB Records
Tracks: 8

Hailing from sunny Fort Myers FL, Autarkeia crushes through 8 tracks of dark, moody, and epic emo. Made up of members of Jiyuna and Merkit, both sides shine through, combining gorgeous building and spine tingling emo with crushing, often distorted bass that made this record almost too heavy to cut the lacquers right. These tracks explore everything from calm to driving to gigantic pounding intensity, all fronted by female vocals ranging from venomous, pained fury to haunting ethereal beauty. Lyrics focus on personal and political topics and are moving and thoughtful. This is an emo record the way they should be - sincere, thought provoking, and intense. (IFB bio.)

Wow, this is another incredible record. Eight songs of heavy, beautiful emotive music that's sure to please fans of Pyramids, Lentic Waters, and Mahria. Great album. Highly recommended! I also included Autarkeia's split 7" with Cloudrat for you to check out as well. Both records can be purchased through IFB. Hit up Nevin at IFB for an order. He's a really nice guy who runs an incredible distro as well. He carries lots of hard to get music from Europe in his distro. To celebrate all this we've decided to create a limited edition of their Split, with the colour of the more noble of the metals, the gold. A precious colour, as precious as the tracks in this piece of burning plastic. We waited a lot to have it in our hands, lot of work and toil, but now everything is ready. Bebe Rebozo - Voglio Essere Un Ninja E Vivere Nell'Ombra (2002)

Country: Italy
Genre: Noise Rock, Punk, Post Punk, Experimental.
Label:
Furt Core.
Tracks: 12
Lenght: 31'

The Bebe Rebozo had already peeped in the Italian rock scene with some self-productions, but their name was circulated mainly through the compilation of Snowdonia which had participated with compelling creative ideas. In fact, their music is only slightly similar to the wild-eyed and ironic style that has made the label branches of Messina and its roots in the American noise rock institutionalized by the Jesus Lizard, which has as its main representatives in our country's One Dimensional Man .

"I want to be a ninja and live in the shadows" for the newly released Core Stab records of Rome and it has been difficult to decipher as a disk, a disk whose value can only be understood through a number of plays. This does not mean that music indulges in experiments abstruse. Indeed, apart from the odd episode, as the unpronounceable sixth track starring Justin Gregory, or "Godzilla" that drags on in a low distorted sludge and metal chimes, to dominate the scene are songs deflagrating, confused and bristly in the tradition of Unsane. "Golden Dragon", "Sakura Sena" or hardcore primitive "It 'a moment' punk blues sound simple shot a thousand, but in the thousand folds of sound are lost countless quotes, feedback, dissonance, fuckin 'around, histrionics, samples that will transfigure the original impetus disruptive.

In short, a record that is syncretism of its peculiarities is the point of intersection of numerous instances of contemporary indie rock, but where the risk is just what not to please anyone: too complex for the punks, too conventional for the avant-garde , too melodic for the noise, etc.. My hope, however, is to listen and appreciate that many. (Another fucking google translation, sorry.)

I definitely got to thinking of screamo bands like We Were Skeletons and Pianos when I started listening to this. The vocals sound a bunch like Xerxes (along with aspects of the music at that). This is their first release since their initial demo; so I would definitely see them begin to "tipping point". Did anybody watch that episode of Sunny this past Thursday? That episode was awesomely awful. (sometimes i get drunk..)

Damn, this LP came as a pleasant surprise after giving this a listen. I almost skipped the request because I'm not sure I like the band name, but definitely loved the band's music. All judging aside, the songs are killer and are well worth your time. Uncle Touchy is a Tennessee based band who play a great style of music that blends elements of AMREP/Touch And Go inspired noise rock mixed with more modern styles of post hardcore. The band lists Cop Shoot Cop, Jesus Lizard, Snapcase, Unsane, and Melvins as influences. I'd say that is right on target, but also pick up bits of Helmet, Quicksand, Breather Resist, and Every Time I Die as well. The ten songs on Everything You Wanted To Know About Violence make for a great listen. I'm sorry I was quick to jump to conclusions about the band name. Great stuff guys!

Whatever Brains - S/T LP (2011)

Country: USA
Genre: Post Punk, Garage Rock, Experimental
Label: Sorry State Records
Tracks: 17

This came as a request via the blog's shoutbox and I'm finally getting around to doing this post after purchasing the album and uploading the mp3's, so here goes.

Sorry State Bio:Without a doubt the most sonically adventurous release thus far on Sorry State, North Carolina's Whatever Brains use their previous 4 7"s as a launching pad into completely uncharted musical waters. While the foundation is still spazzy, weird garage punk, this time around Whatever Brains incorporate electronic beats, tons of synth, some quieter parts, and a few truly epic compositions. This album is so expansive that it probably has something for everyone, but fans of Total Control, early Pavement, prime-era Fall, and catchy garage punk in the Marked Men mold will probably be the ones in the front row banging their fists along. The packaging on this one is also particularly ambitious, including a full-color gatefold jacket, obi strip, 14-page newsprint booklet, and remastered versions of all four of the band's previous EPs.

Great stuff that's really hard to describe and catagorize, which is definitely a good thing in my book. Enjoy!

Country: USA
Genre: Post punk, Indie Rock
Label: Answer Key Records
Tracks: 10

Fellow Project are a Long Island/Queens based post punk band. Stable Life is a ten-song album of melodic and at times pissed off post-hardcore with male/female vocal harmonies. The drums and bass maintain the big sound and groove that resembles the best moments of classic rock while the guitars interplay with one another in a style reminiscent of a screamo breakdown. Fellow Project Features ex-members of Bridge and Tunnel and On the Might of Princes. On the ten song debut album by Fellow Project entitled stable life, the band uses the metaphor of life lived around a horse racing track as a filter for the experiences gained living a modern life. Overall, Stable Life is an amazing album. Definitely a must for fans of Bridge And Tunnel, Small Brown Bike, Lemuria, and Title Fight. Highly recommended! Enjoy!

Dwelling among the debris of the whore capital of Western Slovenia, Hellcrawler are a bunch of cynical wasteland denizens who found unsavory panacea in the symbiosis of punk violence, stoner rock atmosphere and heavy riffage. Their soundtrack to the demise of humankind is a motorized assault of old school death metal and d-beat which reflects their major source of inspiration, the decaying aesthetic of post apocalyptic and spaghetti western cinematography. Beginning in 2010, the outfit saw their first release, Wastelands, in 2011 on Hollow Earth Records.

Los chicxs de Hollow earth records, nos mandan dos bandas para que las posteemos, esta es la primera y aquí os dejo la reseña que ellos mismos nos enviaron.

The members of Robert of the Square, a five-piece hailing from Trieste, Italy, earned their mettle in the latter part of the nineties. Their upbringing prominently shows in their music, which intersperses elements of several strains of hardcore and metal into a powerful sound bursting with ambiance, as witnessed on their debut album, Time. Truth. Heart..

Robert of the Square deliver six tracks of intricate progressive hardcore. Mathcore structures transcend into post hardcore ambience, only to be abruptly ended by another rockish explosion, invoking the likes of Botch and Cult of Luna.

Tracks: 4

Landlocked are a thrash hardcore band from Missouri, USA; and are our first international band. We have the pleasure of putting out their new EP in time for their return to our shores in December with The River Card.

The new EP is a novel attempt to shed light on a pervasive issue in the current hardcore scene: a severe lack of attention given to the value of intellectual pursuits. "Erudition", the band's newest and heaviest release to date, is a commentary on the misguided nature of many recent hardcore releases, which focus on over-saturated themes such as brotherhood, violence, and generic principles of machismo. Rather than direct lyrical commentary on this issue, each song on "Erudition" is comprised of memorable quotes from some of the band's favorite authors. Within the lyrics, one can find genuine inspiration from literary geniuses. Reading between these lines, one will discover Landlocked's perspective on the value of hardcore music inspired by intellectualism.

Negu Gorriak (which in Castilian means "hard winters") was a rock group founded in Guipúzcoa in 1990. His influence has been great in the development of alternative music in both the Basque Country and the rest of Europe. Have been described as one of rock bands "most important of the nineties."

The band was formed by brothers and Iñigo Fermin Muguruza (former members of the Kortatu) with Kaki Arkarazo (M-ak member and former Kortatu). In 1990 he joined Mikel "Anesthesia" (Anesthesia guitarist) and 1991 did the same Mikel "BAP!" (BAP drummer!), Maintaining this formation until its dissolution in 1996.

Musically practiced a fusion music revolved around three basic styles for the band: rock, rap and reggae, as well as traditional Basque music.

His political commitment was total, starting with the choice of Euskera and following both in the form of work as the subject matter of their songs. They chose to do self-management and created the label Esan Ozenki. Bassist and drummer were rebels, made a tour of El Salvador in support of the FMLN, was offered his first concert outside the prison of Herrera de la Mancha ...

PG. 99 & Majority Rule - Split LP (2002)

Country: USA
Genre: Hardcore, Punk, Screamo
Label: Magic Bullet Records
Tracks: 9

After nearly 5 years of slipping out of print, the iconic split LP between Northern Virginia/Washington DC’s PG.99 and MAJORITY RULE finally sees a reissue. Amidst over 600 combined shows (over 100 together), this complex and explosive recording was done under the simple premise of friends in great bands working together to create something that all listeners can call their own. PG.99 winds through this release with dark, poetic experimentations unlike anything they put to tape before or after. MAJORITY RULE delivers on the flip side as beacons of conviction and urgency via an ultra-heavy delivery that holds to this day. This is another great album that pretty much defines the sound of many of the current bands playing screamo/emotive hardcore. Another one of my personal favorites that I never get tired of hearing. Great stuff! Enjoy!
