Caravels & Gifts From Enola-Well Worn LP (2012)

Hell yes. I finally got my digital download for this album after preordering this split LP along with the new Prawn and The Saddest Landscape LPs through Topshelf records back in January and needed to immediately do this post. This split LP features three new songs by Las Vegas, NV's Caravels and two new songs from Harrisburg VA's Gifts From Enola. After an amazing 7" and the reissue of their Floorboards LP on Topshelf records in 2011, Caravels give us three new songs of forward thinking music that combines old school screamo mixed with layered post rock elements. These three songs show Caravels heading in a similar direction as label mates Pianos Become The Teeth, La Dispute, and Defeater. Gifts from Enola is a band I'm not too familiar with but I was definitely impressed by their side of the split LP. Gifts from Enola take a more straight forward approach with their music and give us two songs of angular and aggressive music that calls to mind a mix of hardcore played by bands such as Fugazi mixed with post rock elements of bands such as Tortoise. Overall, an amazing record. Highly recommended! Enjoy!
